Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey: The Story

If I’m being honest, I can’t remember how I became familiar with Monday Zero Alcohol Spirits. Might’ve been social media, might’ve been word of mouth. Whatever it was, I can say that I was immediately drawn to their design. How can you not love that Art Deco theme!? I had high hopes for the liquid inside the well-designed bottle. After all, if they paid that much attention to detail on all other aspects of their brand, surely they had done the same for the product they peddled.

So I made it a point to add Monday to our contestant list for the ‘Best Non-Alcoholic Spirits for an Old Fashioned’ test video. Now, I’ve said in that article that I went into it with no preconceived notions, which is why we decided to not do a blind taste test. And I stand by that. I don’t fall in love with brands I have not tried. Sure, I respect and admire their style sometimes, but what’s on the outside isn’t necessarily what’s on the inside. And really, isn’t what’s on the inside that matters?

So let’s dive in and see what was on the inside. Before we did our Old Fashioned test, we tried each bottle to see what it offered – purely on its own. Here’s how Monday’s Zero Alcohol Whiskey fared.

Nose

Coffee and brown sugar.

Palate

Slightly bitter upfront with some citric acid, followed by sweet notes dominated by chocolate and coffee.

Finish

It transitions to a fair amount of spice on the finish: Jalapeño and black pepper.

Verdict

This one was interesting. It even reminded Devon of a chocolate chai that she sold when she worked at Teavana. We were anticipating more of a typical Old Fashioned profile as opposed to a premium whiskey OF. However, this was a great attempt at that, and it was reflected in our test ranking. The only demerit we could really find was that it took a few sips to get used to. It wasn’t a totally natural ‘hell yes’. If you are a fan of the standout notes (which for us was coffee and chocolate), then you’ll love this one.

Ultimately we feel a fair rating for Monday Zero Proof Whiskey is 7.6/10. Cheers!
