This should be a daily drinker.

Heaven Hill BiB doesn't pretend to be something it's not; it's a well-balanced, sweet-forward Bourbon. if it was more readily available, we would consider it a daily drinker.

The Story

Were you in the Bourbon enthusiast scene on Instagram, circa 2019 or 2020? Then it’s likely you heard the hype around Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond. People were going bananas over this one, which made it difficult to find in any store. In a word, it was allocated. The reason for the allocation was the fact that Heaven Hill had announced in 2018 that they were going to discontinue production of Heaven Hill 6 Year Bottled-in-Bond, which had always been a popular value option. So the Bourbon world was bummed out, and understandably so.

About a year later in 2019, Heaven Hill announced that they were going to come out with a 7 year bottled-in-bond, which is what we are reviewing today. Yeah, it really took us 3+ years to get our hands on one. The bourbon world is no joke these days!

Alright, so what else do we need to cover about it? Honestly there’s not much else to it – it’s 100 proof and 7 years aged. Will this stand up to the hype? Let’s find out!

Nose

The nose is brown sugar, caramel, vanilla and oak. It doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t, as it showcases classic Bourbon aromas.

Palate

The palate showcases sweet notes of caramel popcorn, honey and a touch of butterscotch. It’s a medley of pleasurable sweet flavors.

Finish

The finish stays sweet but incorporates some delightful notes of raw pecans, orange peel, oak and white pepper spice. Definitely some notes that we were unexpected and pleasing.

Verdict

The thing is, Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond is straightforward. It doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not; it’s just a solid bottle of Bourbon. The Bourbon nerds that were going crazy over this one were right; it’s worth the applause. It’s well-balanced, sweet and easy to sip. If it were more readily available we would absolutely consider this one a daily drinker. At the $50 price point it might get pricey after a time, but you wouldn’t regret the quality your hard earned cash is buying for you. If you see it on shelves, definitely grab it. I had my suspicions that it might not meet the hype but it delivered more than I thought it would.

Overall, we’re giving Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond an 8.5 out of 10.
