Nose
It’s both spicy and sweet on the nose; we detected some baking spice, honey, caramel and some fairly prominent oak aromas.
Palate
A decent spice kick to start things off, mostly black pepper. This transitions to sweet throughout the palate with some fruit candy notes, caramel and honey and then transitioning to baking spice as it heads to the finish.
Finish
More black pepper spice and baking spice round out the end, flanked by oak and then a touch of vanilla and caramel. There’s a very, very prominent Kentucky Hug at the end that doesn’t let go for a long while.
Verdict
Bottom line is that this bottle just brings it.
It’s good. And while the tasting notes we provided here may not seem too exciting, it does these particular notes pretty well. They’re not faint in the least. There’s a fair amount of character here and that’s what makes this bottle enjoyable.
Negatives? The only thing we could think of is the level of spice and heat this one brings. In fact, that’s the only aspect we could ding this one on…it was pretty hot at first, and finishes real nice and warm. A very powerful Kentucky Hug greets you at the end. But we didn’t take much off for that, since that can be an enjoyable aspect for some and it doesn’t take away from the pleasant sweet notes that this bottle imparts.
Overall, we’re giving Weller Full Proof an 8.3 out of 10.
