The Story
Talk about the Distillery Row series from Old Forester and you’re bound to get asked the question: Which of the series is your favorite?
In our experience, most bourbon connoisseurs would jump right into saying 1920. And why not – it has a lot of great flavor packed in its 115 proof body. But we’ve always felt like the relationship between 1910 and 1920 is a lot like siblings where the one is the golden child and the other is not appreciated as much in comparison. While 1920 is hoisted on the team’s shoulders as the QB who made the game-winning TD, 1910 is the one who threw the block that allowed the QB to squeeze into the end zone.
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. But enough with the analogies. We’re going to give our Old Forester 1910 review not in the shadow of its sibling, but unto its own merits exclusively. So let’s get into it.
Nose
Dark Chocolate, buttercream, caramel sauce.
Palate
Black pepper rushes in, followed quickly by pecan and molasses notes. Rich oak shines throughout.
Finish
Cherry and cinnamon, with a tinge of orange peel.
Verdict
More than the flavors themselves, the delightful thing about Old Forester 1910 is the mouthfeel; it coats the entire surface of your mouth and adheres the notes to your tongue for a long time before dissipating – leaving remnants of cinnamon spice for you to enjoy. For the price, you are certainly getting what you pay for. The nice thing is that you can use this bottle in a higher end cocktail – without feeling bad that you didn’t sip it. The price for the value is spot on, and if you have someone who is a bourbon aficionado come over, pouring them a dram of it will definitely be met with appreciation. Old Forester 1910 gets a deserving 8.9/10 from us.
Cheers friends!
