The Story
We’ve been kicking ourselves over our lack of a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked review. It’s one of our own personal go-to’s and it has long deserved an evaluation here on the website. Our acquaintance with this bottle goes back a ways so bear with me.
My first exposure to Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was during my first ever distillery tour in 2018. As we readied ourselves for a trip to Kentucky for my brother’s bachelor party, our group of four decided we needed to add another fun stop to our hiking and evening out in Lexington itinerary, so we reserved a tour at Woodford Distillery.
Driving up to the distillery was honestly incredible. The rolling hills, the endless black painted wood fences and the beautiful horses roaming the vast fields was a completely new sight to me and really set the tone for the experience. After getting to the distillery and doing a good chunk of the tour, we ended up in one of the rickhouses where we sampled two different Woodford offerings: The Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and the Double Oaked. The Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey was great, but I remember thinking that the Double Oaked was exceptional.
When I returned home, I added it to my shopping list and grabbed it at my local store. I enjoyed it just as much then as the first time I tried it. But now that I’ve had a little more experience in trying different whiskeys, how does this stack up with everything I’ve tried? It’s time to dig in and see if it still holds up from those initial days in my whiskey-loving journey.
